CV Format for Freshers in India
A fresher CV should help an employer quickly understand what you have learned, what you can do and how you could contribute. You do not need years of work experience to make a useful CV. A clear education section, relevant skills, academic or personal projects and honest examples of responsibility can give a first-time applicant a strong starting point.
What should a fresher CV contain?
For most entry-level applications, start with the information that helps a recruiter identify you and contact you. Then show your education, relevant skills and evidence that you have used those skills. Keep the information accurate and choose details that relate to the job you are applying for.
- Name and contact: your name, phone number, professional email and city. A full street address is usually unnecessary.
- Profile summary: two or three specific sentences about your studies, strongest relevant skills and the type of role you are seeking.
- Education: course or qualification, institution, location and completion year. Include marks or CGPA when they help and are accurate.
- Skills: tools, software, languages and job-related abilities you can honestly demonstrate.
- Projects: coursework, portfolio work, lab work, community projects or independent work that shows how you apply your knowledge.
- Internships and activities: include internships, volunteering, student societies, competitions or leadership roles when they are relevant.
A simple fresher CV format you can adapt
Use this structure as a starting point. Replace every bracketed prompt with your own information and remove sections that do not apply.
YOUR FULL NAME City | Phone | Professional email | Portfolio or LinkedIn (optional) PROFILE Recent [qualification] graduate interested in [role/field]. Familiar with [relevant skill/tool] through [course/project]. EDUCATION [Qualification] — [Institution], [Year] [Relevant coursework or achievement, if useful] SKILLS [Skill 1] · [Skill 2] · [Tool 1] · [Language] PROJECTS [Project name] — [Month/Year] [What you made, your contribution and the result] INTERNSHIP / EXPERIENCE (if applicable) [Role] — [Organisation], [Dates] [One or two accurate contribution statements] CERTIFICATIONS / ACTIVITIES (optional) [Relevant course, award, volunteering or activity]
How to write a fresher profile summary
Avoid generic claims such as “hardworking and dedicated” unless you support them with context. Name your qualification or area of study, mention one or two relevant strengths and describe the role you are targeting. For example, use a fill-in structure such as: “Recent [course] graduate with project experience in [area] and working knowledge of [tool]. Seeking an entry-level [role] where I can contribute to [relevant task].” Only include skills and experience that are true for you.
How long should a fresher CV be?
One page is often enough for a first CV. A second page can be reasonable when you have relevant projects, training or experience that genuinely needs the space. Do not shrink the type or add unrelated details just to fill a page. Use short bullet points, consistent dates and clear section headings.
Should a fresher include a photo?
Follow the employer's instructions and the norms of the role and application. A photo is not a universal requirement. Do not add personal details such as age, religion, marital status or a full home address unless the application specifically asks for them and you are comfortable providing them.
Before you send the CV
- Check your phone number and email carefully.
- Use the same date format throughout.
- Check spelling, grammar and course or employer names.
- Tailor your summary and skills to the actual job description without copying claims you cannot support.
- Open the PDF on a phone and computer to check that the layout is readable.

Common questions
Can I make a CV without work experience?
Yes. Highlight your education, relevant skills, academic or personal projects, internships, volunteering and activities. Do not invent employment history.
Should a fresher CV be one page?
One page is a useful target for many freshers, but use a second page when relevant information genuinely needs it.
Do freshers need to include a photo?
Only include a photo when the employer or application specifically requests it or it is appropriate for the role and market.
